Lucky in Love

I am not a big fan of Valentine’s day; my husband and I ceased from celebrating it slowly throughout the years and stopped altogether once we got married.  And let’s admit it, I am not a soft-toy kind of girl anymore, although I do appreciate a lovely box of chocolates.  Back in the day, my then-boyfriend and I used to buy each other the cheesiest Me-To-You teddies adorned with hearts, roses, and all the Valentines’ paraphernalia (which are now squashed at the bottom of my kids’ toy-basket or are the victim of a Sharpie-attack). But these days, we’d rather go all out for our wedding anniversary, than celebrate a day that is so over-commercialised.  However, this year Valentines’ day is going to coincide with our usual midweek date-night (nothing fancy; just an early dinner and a movie), so I thought why not get into Valentine’s spirit with my makeup? You know, for old time’s sake?

So with this thought in mind, I rummaged through my makeup drawers and picked up the most pinky makeup that I have.  Let me run you through some of my favourites:

Tarte Tartellette In Bloom palette

This palette was my first choice, not only because of its stunning reddish-pink packaging but because it contains 12 gorgeous warm shadows in a mix of matte and lustre finishes.  My three best-loved shades from this palette, as you can see, are Smarty Pants, Funny Girl, Rebel, and Firecracker.

This nail colour has to be my favourite pink from my entire pink-nail varnish collection because it is the perfect bubblegum pink which is not too chalky neither too bright but sits somewhere in the middle.  And I am smitten with Revlon’s Gel Envy nail polish line both formula and applicator wise.  They have a flat, wide brush which means it gets the colour on very quickly and precisely.  The formula is very opaque, and the finish is ultra-glossy so you can easily skip the top-coat if you can’t be bothered.

Becca Luminous Blush in Snapdragon

I doubt I will be doing much blushing tonight, so I sourced a little help from Becca with this pinky-coral blush that gives the most beautiful flush to the cheeks.  It contains finely milled shimmering pigments that make the cheeks glowy, without looking glittery at all.  And it wears for hours, so I don’t need to hassle with touching up, except for the lips (undoubtedly!).

L’Oreal Ultra Precision eyeliner

Although it’s not my favourite, this eyeliner is a contender.  The formula is super black, matte, and long-wearing which is what I look for in an eyeliner.  The catch, though, is the applicator because it is wobbly and I have to use all my willpower to get an even line.  Because of this, I much prefer their liquid pen-eyeliner, but I still think this is a great eyeliner overall.

Flormar lipgloss in Electric Fuchsia

This gorgeous pink lipgloss is from a recent haul I did, so if you want to read more about it, click here.

Mac Studio Fix Fluid foundation SP 15 in NC20

This foundation is a godsend for those who have oily skin like me.  It has an oil-free formula, with a medium-high coverage, long staying power, and a matte, but quite radiant finish. I still have to powder my T-zone though, but that’s because I have over-productive oil glands and, unless I want to look like a waxed apple, I can never skip that part.

Are you a fan of Valentines’ day? What are your plans for tonight?
